Nicheside services for Betty Harrison of McMinnville will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum. Sister Franseca Kassler will officiate.

Mrs. Harrison died July 12, 2001, in Willamette Valley Medical Center. She was 78.

Born March 28, 1923, in Durango, Colo., she was the daughter of Oliver and Clara Ritter Sowers. She graduated from Durango High School in 1942.

She and Ellswerth P. Harrison were married Feb. 6, 1942, in Aztec, N.M.

They lived in Redondo Beach, Calif., for three years, then moved to McMinnville in 1944. Mrs. Harrison worked as a meat wrapper at the Erickson Supermarket, as a checker in Safeway and as an employee of the Archway Cookie Factory.

She went to work for Oregon Mutual, retiring in the early 1980s after 20 years with the company. Later, she worked for Mariott Food Service at Linfield College.

Mrs. Harrison, a registered certified nurse's aide, worked two days a week in the day surgery unit at McMinnville Community Hospital. She was a member of the hospital volunteer guild, as well. She had served as guild president, secretary and gift shop secretary. In November 1986, she was named volunteer of the month.

Mrs. Harrison was a longtime member of Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, painting, ceramics, crossword puzzles, crocheting, needlepoint and her cat.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzann Harrison of Central Point; a son, Eric Harrison of Brownsville; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and by two brothers, Owen Sowers and Donald Sowers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in care of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
