Graveside services for retired Judge Whit LaFon age 91 will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sautrday April 4, 2009 at Hollywood Cemetery with Dr. Graig Christina officiating.


Born in Palmersville, Tennessee on March 14, 1918. Mr LaFon died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. He was a graduate of Jackson High School, a 1941 graduate of Vanderbilt University and a 1948 graduate of Vanderbilt Law School.


Mr. LaFon served his county with the U.S. Air Force in WW II and was active in the American Legion since 1946 severing as the 1954-1954 State commander of the American Legion, served as Post Commander of John A. Denver, Post 12 at Jackson and had served as a member of the Resolutions and Assignment Committee of the National Organization.


Mr. LaFon practiced general law in Jackson, TN since 1948 and was associated with the firms of Roger Murray, Sr. for five years, a partner with Jack Wooodall, Sr. for twenty years and a member of the firm of LaFon and Hardee when appointed Circuit Judge on September 1, 1987.


Active in the Tennessee Bar Association and serving as President of the Jackson Madison County Bar Association.


Mr. LaFon served as Assistant District Attorney General for twenty years under District Attorney General: David P. Murray ans was a member of First Baptist Church, Tennessee Bar Association, Jackson Madison County Bar Association, Masonic Lodge #332, Elks lodge, Knights of Pythias, American Legion and the Jackson Golf and Country Club. Mr. LaFon enjoyed a great game of golf and the sport of fishing.


Mr. LaFon was married to the late Nell Adams LaFon who preceded him in death on October 4, 2007 and is survived by several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.


Memorial may be directed to First Baptist Church of Jackson, Tennessee.


Visitation with the LaFon Family will be held on Saturday, April 4th from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
