A Joel C. ROPER is listed as Head of Household 1850 US Census, Cass Co., GA, 12 Dist., p. 101. He lived on 6 Dec 1846 at GA; was elected to Georgia Legislature. He married Sarah H. Wooley, daughter of (--?--) Wooley and Mary Ann (--?--), on 21 Sep 1849 at Cass County, GA.

Captain ROPER began military service Spring 1861 and served until the Fall 1864 in Co. F 18th Reg. GA Inf. CSA. Captured April 1861. Wounded at 2nd. Battle of Manassas, Virginia, 20 Aug 1862.

Joel C. ROPER's first wife Sarah M. (Woolley) ROPER died on 29 Jun 1873. Her Will dated 14 May 1873 and proved 04 Sep 1873 is recorded at Bartow, GA, Will Book A, Page 377-9. This Will identifies the children of the first marriage. Some researchers have erroneously ascribed Sarah's death as that of Joel.
