Justice James Iredell (1751- 1799) was a patriot of the Revolution, N.C. Attorney General, advocate for North Carolina's ratification of the U.S. Constitution, and Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court by appointment of President Washington. He wrote the dissenting opinion in Chisolm v. Georgia (1793) that brought about the 11th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
