Leland was born in Louisville, the son of Albert & Ella Chandler Murphy. He married Erma Bailey on January 8, 1941 in Owensboro, KY. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1979. He then married Adria Henson June 26, 1982. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Leland was employed for 34 years in the East Moline School District as a teacher and then as a principal retiring in 1978.
He was a Navy Veteran. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher & served on the Christian Education Board as a trustee & a deacon.
He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved watching basketball & baseball.
He is survived by his children, Naniola, Sharon, Jeffery, Barbara, & Norman. Brothers, Dale Murphy, Wayne Murphy, and Kenneth Murphy and a sister Ruth Hall.
Funeral services were at Bethany Baptist Church in Moline with burial in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
