Leland was employed for 34 years in the East Moline School District as a teacher and then as a principal retiring in 1978.
He was a Navy Veteran. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher & served on the Christian Education Board as a trustee & a deacon.
He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved watching basketball & baseball.
He is survived by his children, Naniola, Sharon, Jeffery, Barbara, & Norman. Brothers, Dale Murphy, Wayne Murphy, and Kenneth Murphy and a sister Ruth Hall.
Funeral services were at Bethany Baptist Church in Moline with burial in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
