Frank was born in Kalhi, Honolulu, Hawaii, Feb 12, 1908. He finished grammar school in Kalihi, but no more. In 1936 he married a Russian girl, Irene Koerte (aka Irene Kitkowski, which was her mother’s maiden name). The Koerte family lived on Kaua’i and were very active in the Lihue Lutheran Church.

Frank worked as a blacksmith when he enlisted in the Army after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (25 February 1942) and was stationed in the Mid-Pacific. He remained in the Army until 14 October 1945. He passed away in 1974 in Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii, and his widow Irene died a few years later in 1977. They are both buried at the Kaua’i Veterans’ Cemetery in Hanapepe.
