Christian D. and Katharena (Strausz) Goering came to North America in 1874. They were passengers on the Ship City of Richmond, which docked in New York on August 31, 1874. After their arrival in McPherson County, they made their home on the North 1/2 section of Section 31, Township 27, Range 2W. Here they reared their family, experienced the rigors, hardships and privations of pioneer life. They were, however, happy and thankful to God for the privilege to finally live in a country according to the dictates of their conscience.

A great deal more could be said about the reigious convictions of these Mennonites and the persecution waged by the Catholic Church. Demands were made on them to denounce their conviction or suffer death. Many of those who remained steadfast were put to death. Some were burned at the stake, others were guillotined, others were imprisoned and literally starved to death. They moved from country to country in search of religious freedom. It was the search for this freedom that led them to the shores of this great land. Here they prospered, built churches and schools and were bountifully blessed by a kind and gracious God. So, their descendants are now enjoying the fruits of their labors, mainly, religious freedom, comfort and conveniences of modern homes and the essentials of life in great abundance. May we ever be thankful and grateful to Almighty God for leading our Grandparents out of lands of persecution to the United States of North America. May their decendants say "Praise God From Whom ALll Blessings Flow."

Christian married Katharena Strausz on November 15, 1859.
