John Edward Steffen, 72, Birdseye, died last Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Huntingburg. He was a retired mail carrier and a member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge 574 and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 590. Survivors include his companion, Velma Bolin, a son, Carl O.(Skinner) Steffen of Birdseye, a daughter, Mary Lou Eckert of Huntingburg, three sisters, Clara Gunselman of Ferdinand, Matilda Abell and Elizabeth Morris, both of Birdseye, three brothers, Aloysius Steffen of St. Anthony, Lawrence Steffen of Jasper, and Sylvester Steffen of Birdseye, seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.
