He was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Atlanta, moved to the Birmingham area as a child, where he lived most of his life. He also resided in Trussville and Mobile.
After retiring from BellSouth Telephone Company in 1978 with 42 years service, he and his wife moved from Birmingham to Baldwin County. During his career with the Bell company he was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Chancey Wilcox.
Survivors include two daughters, Sara (Ben) Waide of Fenwick Island, Del., and Peggy (Bill) Miller of Greenville, SC; a son, William E. (Peggy) Wilcox of Houston; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial and a memorial service will take place at a later date at Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley.
