He was born November 25, 1917 in Bountiful, Utah to Llewelyn S. and Janet Campbell Rampton and married his beloved wife, Ruth Halliday on Sept. 5, 1940.
A veteran of World War II, Byron proudly served as a U.S. Army officer in the Pacific Theater and later retired as a colonel in the Army Reserve. His war-era memoir, "The War As I Saw It," was recently published. He was a former Utah State Senator, representing Davis County, and a longtime Bountiful area business owner.
Byron was forever devoted to his family. We shall miss, but always honor his strength, courage and wisdom. "But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, all loses are restored, and sorrows end."
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children: Kathie, Kristie, Michele, Martha, Dan, and Mindy; brother, Calvin; sister, Virginia Keiser; 21 grandchildren; his daughter, Julia, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 5, 11 a.m., at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 No. 400 East, where friends may call Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services on Thursday. Interment: Bountiful City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
