"Forever in our hearts she will be greatly missed by her family and friends." Virginia Mabel Standard, age 87, of La Grande and formerly of Huntington, died Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2002 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Private interment will be held at the Island City Cemetery. Mrs. Standard was born on September 19, 1915, the daughter of Charles Addison Davis and Ruth Virginia Hancock in Huntington, Baker County, Oregon. She finished her schooling in Ontario and on August 24, 1944 she married Ernest Jesse Standard in Ontario, Malheur County, Oregon. She worked as the projectionist for the Huntington Theatre for 17 years. She loved rose gardening and the ocean and enjoyed reading. Survivors include her daughters, Elenora Arnold of Huntington, Patricia Harry of Stanwood, Washington and Carol Brown of Puyallup, Washington; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Anderson of Weiser, Idaho and Charlotte McCown of The Dalles, Oregon; and other relatives and friends. Her husband, Earnest and two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon.
