PROVO, Nov. 9--Funeral services for Ephraim D. Sutton, 78, retired merchant of Provo who died Thursday morning at his home will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Provo Masonic temple, Sunday at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the Berg mortuary until Sunday and at the residence, 261 east First North street, prior to the services. Interment will be in the Provo city cemetery.
Mr. Sutton was born Sept. 7, 1856, in Salt Lake City, and was the eldest son of the late Isaac and Emma Davis Sutton. His father was one of the first merchants in Provo.
He married Fannie Sutherland, a sister of George Sutherland, chief justice of the United States supreme court, April 23, 1890, Provo, and the couple moved to Park City. While there, he founded the E. D. Sutton Mercantile company, also. he was foreman of the Ontario mine for 10 years. They returned to Provo in 1898 and have made their home here since that time. He was one of the first members of Story lodge No. 4, F. and A. M.
Surviving are his widow; one son, Raymond Sutton; two grandchildren; three brothers, William D. Sutton, Salt Lake; Arthur D. Sutton, Price; David D. Sutton, Provo; three sisters, Mrs. H. E. Sutherland, Bakersfield, Cal.; Mrs. C. W. Douglas, Los Angeles; Miss Carrie Sutton, Napa, Cal. (Added by Twist on Aug 6, 2008)
