Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Officiants will be Rev. James Allemeier and Sister Marcia of Genesis Medical Center. Interment will take place at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Services will include military honors by American Legion Post 246.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may go to Quad City Candlelighters.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1913, to William and Mary (Sheetz) Amelon in Johnson County, Iowa. He married Louise Bunch and later E. Imogene (Jean) Barker on Feb. 20, 1970, in Moline.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 246, Moline.
He was employed as a salesman for Midwest Publishing in Davenport for 12 years, retiring in 1978. After retirement he worked at Thompson Bunte Real Estate and at Hertz Rental Co. of Moline.
Prior to coming to Moline he worked for Rainbow Bread Co. of Tulsa, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; a daughter, Catherine Travis, Salt Lake City; sons, Gary (Mary Beth) Amelon, Parker, Colo., and Michael (Paula) Amelon, Littleton, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Linda (John) Madsen, Rock Island; stepsons, Bill (Teresa) Barker, Bettendorf, and Bruce (Christine) Barker, Lynn Center; a brother, Virgil Amelon, Scammon, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded by his mother, father, a brother and two sisters.
