Sharon Gail (Olsgaard) Engle, age 85, died peacefully on Monday, October 9th, 2023. She was surrounded and held by her loving family as she passed.

Sharon was born on November 19th, 1937, in Moorhead Minnesota, to Olive (Askegaard) and Orris Olsgaard, and joined her older sister, Cynthia. The Olsgaard family moved around the country for Orris's job. They settled for several years in Clarence, Iowa, where Sharon attended high school. She was involved in many activities, including baton twirling as a majorette and playing basketball, making it to the Iowa State Finals Tournament her senior year. The family moved permanently to Omaha, Nebraska in 1955, where Sharon attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. That is where she met her future husband, Jim Engle.

Sharon and Jim were married in 1960. They had three children, Debbie, Kerrin, and Kathy. Sharon was a wonderful stay-at-home mother for much of her girls' growing up years. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years, and was involved in all of the girls' activities. After leaving college just short of finishing her degree to raise her children, she later returned to UNO and completed her BA in Media and Library Sciences in 1978. Sharon then was hired at the Elkhorn School District, beginning her career as a Librarian.

Sharon and Jim moved to Denver, Colorado in 1984. She continued her work as a Librarian at Excelsior Youth Center for many fulfilling years.

Sharon loved gardening, reading, bird watching, and collecting bird houses and pottery. She curated a beautiful collection of Christmas decorations and amassed many of her beloved Snow Village pieces. Mom was not wild about cooking, but she did make the absolute best potato salad, famous the land over. She loved watching any basketball game on TV, but was an avid Duke fan. Although having moved from Nebraska, Sharon remained a devoted Cornhuskers fan, continuing to put out the "Go Big Red" flag on game days. Both sets of Sharon's grandparents immigrated from Norway, and Sharon loved all things Norwegian. She enjoyed attending Nordic festivals and craft fairs, and proudly served lefse at holiday meals.

Sharon loved to sing, and had an exceptional soprano voice. She sang in the choir at Grace United Methodist Church for 17 years. She also joined a group called 5280+ Senior Chorales, which gave her so much joy in her last years. We, as her family, treasured being able to return the support she has always given us by attending her choir concerts and chorale performances.

Sharon and Jim were always very involved in their children and grandchildren's lives. They attended many, many basketball and soccer games, piano recitals, choir concerts, and dance recitals and performances. Nothing gave them more pleasure than to spend time with their precious grandchildren, Jake, Kate, and Jordan.

Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2023. She had completed six of the twelve rounds of chemotherapy. Although she had some complications through those months, she continued to valiantly fight on. She wanted to complete the twelve rounds, being the strong Viking woman that she was. In her immonu-compromised state, she developed a serious blood infection. This quickly led to double pneumonia, of which she succumbed to.

Sharon leaves behind her children, Debra Engle, Kerrin (Dave) Holsteen, and Kathryn Engle, her grandchildren Jake (Julie) Holsteen, Kate (Justin) Layden, and Jordan Lueck, and her great-grandchildren James Layden (3) and Emma Layden (1). Sharon is also survived by her sister, Cynthia Buck, nephew Barry (Suzy) Dircks, nieces Carey (Ernie) Byrne Newmann, Pamela Des Chatelets, and Susan (Rick) Klatt. She has many beloved extended family members and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Engle, her mother Olive Olsgaard, and her father Orris Olsgaard
