Djerf, Mary Ewald of Richfield, died Sept 23, 2016 at age 92. Mary was a lifelong educator who taught reading and study skills at Normandale Community College to older students returning to school. She believed that life was lived in community, with her friends at Gramercy Coop, where she lived her elder years, and with her beloved First UU church, where she was active for nearly 50 years. The second row pew will miss her welcoming smile. Survivors include sister Elizabeth Larson, son Craig Gilbert (Christine Mueller), daughter Carol Gilbert (Liz Permar), grandchildren Max Gilbert (Colleen Lamb), Timothy Gilbert, and Hannah Gilbert, niece Kathryn Larson and nephew Mark Larson, and their families, much loved Djerf relatives and friends. Special thanks to Nora Page for her loving support of Mary-family is often found, not inherited. A Celebration of Life is on Oct 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Universalist Church, 3400 Dupont Ave S, Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to the church or Planned Parenthood.
