She married George W. Genter on November 25, 1861 in Ellisburg, New York.

They had eight children - George McClellan Brewster Genter, Silas Smith Genter, John L Genter, Robert Emmett Genter, Catherine Smith Genter, Alice Genter, Frank Barnett Genter, and William Charles Genter.

Her parents were Barnett Vanderhaden Smith and Sarepta Brewster (a direct descendant of William Brewster, the spiritual leader of the Mayflower pilgrims).

The funeral of Emma A. Genter, who died at her home, in the town of Croghan, near Rogers, last Thursday morning, was held Saturday from the Methodist Episcopal church at Natural Bridge and interment was made at the Sand Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Genter was 73 years of age and leaves surviving a husband, two sons and a daughter.
