Johannes was a Dutch civilian war casualty of World War II. He lost his life in a massive Allied-led air raid on the city of Nijmegen, which ultimately killed over 880 civilians.

"Piet Derks was the son of Gerardus H. Derks and Elisabeth van der Logt. He was married to Henriëtte Janssen and father of 2 children. He worked shifts at the Nyma. He was cycling to work with a colleague when they saw planes coming over on the Kronenburgersingel. The colleague dived under a car in time, but Piet Derks stayed to watch for a while. That got him killed." (source: https://www.oorlogsdodennijmegen.nl/)
