Mrs. Annie Gordon Nehls, 56 years old, a daughter of the late Senator James H. Gordon of Mississippi, died at her home, 970 Elizabeth Place, at 7 o'clock last night as a result of burns received yesterday morning while attempting to light a gas heater. Mrs. Nehls was for years a prominent figure in Christian Science circles and for about three years had bee a practitioner in the Memphis church. She came to Memphis seven years ago from New Orleans. Shortly after rising yesterday morning, Mrs. Nehls went to the bathroom of her home and made efforts to light a small gas heater., her first attempt was unsuccessful and when she struck a second match the gas, which had been escaping meanwhile, ignited. The flame shot over her body, setting fire to a light kimono which she wore.....
....Mrs. Nehls is survived by two sons, Gordon T. Barrow of Millington, Tenn., and John T. Barrow of Memphis. The former was at the bedside of his mother during the afternoon, having arrived in Memphis from his home after telegrams had summoned hi, early in the day. Her second son, who is a traveling man, left here on Saturday Efforts were made to notify him, but were unsuccessful. It is said by friends of the family he will arrive today. Mrs. Nehls was twice married. Both husbands are dead. She lost a daughter, Miss Virginia Barrow, only two years ago. She was prominent in the Christian Science Church at New Orleans before she came her during the latter part of 1907. She moved to New Orleans, some years previous, from North Mississippi.
