HATFIELD, ALVIN

Asleep in Jesus

Alvin, son of Benjamin and Maria Hatfield, departed this life Wednesday morning, July 8, 1891. The funeral occurred Thursday morning from the Christian Church in Belle Plaine, Elder J. E. Cain, officiating, after which the remains were deposited in the Belle Plaine Cemetery to await the morn of the resurrection. We mourn, but not without hope, for Jesus hath said "suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven."
Dear brother thou art gone,
From suffering thou art free;
Though we here our loss do mourn,
We'll meet thee in eternity.
Thy life on earth was short and sweet,
As the bud is to the rose;
So thou did'st come, and thou hast gone
To bloom in Heaven's repose.
The days will be lonely without thee,
The nights more lonely still;
Though sun and moon their vigils keep,
Thy voice on earth is stilled.
And now dear brother, rest in peace,
With sisters for thy company;
For we are told in God's own word,
Of such is the kingdom of Heaven.
Another treasure has gone from earth,
Our hearts encircled round it;
Another treasure at home in Heaven,
Dear Jesus, thou wilt crown it.
-- A Brother
