Sports figure. Considered one of East Germany's best football (soccer) players. He won the bronze medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. In 1974, during East Germany's only FIFA World Cup appearance, he scored two goals, one against Australia and one against Argentina; in total he had 229 goals playing for Hansa Rostock and FC Magdeburg; and 53 for East Germany. In 1985, he retired from playing to manage the teams FC Magdeburg; Eintracht Braunschweig; and FSV Zwickau.
