DEATH OF MRS. JACKSON.
Mrs. Ursula Jackson, relict of Governor Hancock Lee Jackson, of Missouri, who died in this State about three years ago, passed from this life at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Woodson, in Amity, March 2, 1880, at the advanced age of 77 years and 8 months.
Mrs. Jackson was a native of N. Y. Her maiden name was Oldham. She was married and removed to Missouri in 1821. Her husband early became absorbed in political life, leaving to her largely the care and responsibility of training a large family.
She came to this State with her husband in 1865, taking up their residence in Salem, where her husband died in March, 1877, after 55 years of married life. She was an honored member of the Baptist church, most loved by those most intimate with her and honored by all who knew her. She was brought to Salem for burial, and her funeral attended from the Baptist Church, by a large number of her former neighbors and acquaintances, many of whom testified their love by tears as they viewed her remains.
Another of life's travelers gone, who honored the position of wife, mother, neighbor and friend, in both private and public life. The families of several of her children were permitted the sad consolation of being present at her funeral. Her death was peaceful, and she rests, "sweetly rests."
