SERVICES TUESDAY FOR "WES" YATES
LONG TIME RESIDENT OF RED OAK SUCCUMBED TO HEART DISEASE SATURDAY - ILL 5 MONTHS
Thomas W. "Wes" Yates, 78, died Saturday at his home, 304 Market Street, after illness of five months with heart disease.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday form Sellergren Funeral Home and at 3 p.m. from the Locust Grove Methodist Church, southwest of Shenandoah of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Charles F. Kemp was in charge. Pall bearers were Duane Dodd, Wayne Yates, Glen Yates, William Yates, Leo Shapcott, and Robert McMillin music was by Mrs Orrin Carmichael, Mrs. Grace Shay, Mrs. Allie Swisher, and Mrs. Mable McQueen. Burial was in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Thomas Wesley Yates was born April 27, 1868 at Jacksonville, Illinois, son of John and Olivia Yates. He came to Iowa at an early age settling in Page County. Mr. Yates and Anna Miller were married July 1, 1889 at Clarinda and they farmed in Page County, later moving to Shenandoah They came to Red Oak in 1909. Mrs. Yates died July 30, 1912.
Surviving are a brother, two sisters, three sons, two daughters, 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. The children are Rhea Yates and Mrs. James W. (Lula) Halbert of Red Oak; N. W. Yates of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Nora Shupp, Springfield, Missouri, and Richard C. Yates of Avoca. Harvey Yates of Council Bluffs is a brother and the sisters are Mrs. Ernest Richards of Sidney and Mrs Ulysses Bricker of Farragut.
