MARY PEIRCE GORE
First wife of Samuel Gore

DAUGHTER of Captain Joseph Pierce of Boston (parents unknown) and Sarah Cruft Roby [see text in photos]. The best information appears to be that his parents are unknown (there are trees online that give him a fourteen years old father). Croft, Craft, Cruft – with or without an "s" ending – are the "same" name. At times, name variations are used by choice even within the same nuclear family - alternatively, the spelling is phonetic and used by clerks, etc. Captain Joseph Peirce's widow, Sarah Cruft Roby, married Henry Roby — i.e. "Sarah Cruft (widow of PEIRCE) Roby". Sister of Sarah Pierce Grant — Sarah Peirce Grant, wife of Moses (born March 1744 / alt. date March 1743) Grant.
• Married 1774 to patriot SAMUEL GORE.
• Mother of MARY GORE GRANT.
• GRANDMOTHER of SUSAN WHITE SEAVER GRANT WALKER.

Captain Joseph Pierce/Peirce – the father of Mary (Peirce) Gore and Sarah (Pierce) Grant – is often attached to the wrong parents - the best information appears to be that his parents are unknown. On Geni his father is 14 years old (putting him with the family whose line goes to Henry Augustus Peirce, of which family this Joseph is not – cannot be, because of birthdate/age of father conflict).

U.S. Senator, Massachusetts Governor Christopher Gore was the younger brother of Boston Tea Party patriot Samuel Gore (Samuel married 1st Mary Peirce and second Susannah White Seaver widow of Nathaniel "Lost in Arabia" Seaver).
