3rd Missouri Governor. He served as Governor of Missouri from 1825 to 1826, having been elevated to the Governorship upon the death of 2nd Missouri Governor Frederick Bates on August 4, 1825. At the time Missouri had no Lieutenant Governor, so Abraham William's position as President Pro-Tem of the Missouri State Senate made him next in line for the office, which he held until the inauguration of 4th Missouri Governor John Miller on January 20, 1826.
