Cleveland - Keith Somerville Dockery McLean, 91, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, MS, died on April 3, 2006. Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Cleveland under the direction of Ray Funeral Home. She was born on May 30, 1914, the daughter of Keith Frazier Somerville and Robert Nugent Somerville. She attended Cleveland Consolidated Schools. Mrs. McLean attended Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans and was a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Mississippi in 1936. In 1938, she married Joe Rice Dockery. Following his death in 1982, she assumed management of Dockery Farms, a position from which she retired at the age of eighty. She married G. Hite McLean of Greenwood in 1985. Mrs. McLean was active in the arts in Mississippi and nationally. She served two terms on the first Mississippi Arts Commission and was a founding member of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. She served on the board of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture and the Women's Council for Philanthropy at the University of Mississippi. She was an emeritus member of the Friends of Educational Broadcasting. She was a member of the National Council of the Metropolitan Opera and co-founded Amici, North Mississippi's Friends of the Regional Auditions Program for promising young singers throughout the United States and Canada. Mrs. McLean received the Governor's Award for Excellence as a volunteer in 1994 and the President's Award for Outstanding Service to the Bologna Performing Arts Center, Delta State University, in 2002. She was a Chevalier of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, Memphis Chapter. Mrs. McLean was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church and their organist for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her sister, Ashton Somerville Ingram; and her grandson, Thomas Gail Clark, III. Survivors include three daughters, Douglas Dockery Thomas of New York, McKay Dockery Clark of Memphis, and Keith Dockery Derbes of New Orleans; stepchildren, Kim McLean Spencer of Brevard, N.C. and Hite McLean Jr., of Memphis; ten grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
