Private George Brown, was drafted and mustered at Scranton, Lackawanna County Pennsylvania at age 18 on Oct. 15, 1863, for 3 yrs.; and assigned to Company C, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in the foot ( Old Soldier's Home records indicate that it was an eye) while in the Trenches, near Petersburg, Va., on June 17, 1864. He was absent sick at muster out and was discharged from the U.S. Hospital at New York on August 17, 1865.
