Mr. McMath was the husband of Nettie Belle Sanders. He and Mrs. McMath were the parents of Sidney Sanders McMath, the 34th governor of Arkansas, and Edith Crane Swift, wife of long-serving Chicago chief of uniformed police, Ray Crane. Mr. McMath was a frequent rodeo and stock breeding contender, winning a number of calf roping, bull-dogging and riding events as well as awards for equine and bovine husbandry, mostly at local and regional shows. He was a superb woodman and forester with a keen interest in water location, preservation and surfacing.
