Clair D. Butler, 90, of 4 Park St., Lewis Run, passed away on Saturday (March 6, 2021) at Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.

Born on Jan. 12, 1931, in Kane, he was the son of the late Earl A. and Anna C. Whelan Butler. He was a 1950 graduate of St. Bernard High School.

On July 2, 1952, in Buffalo, N.Y., he entered the United States Army. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a corporal on June 28, 1954.

On July 24, 1954, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, he married Patricia Zamberlan, who survives.

Clair worked as a commercial artist at Zippo Manufacturing Company for 45 years. He also served as Chief of Police for Lewis Run, and served as a Deputy Sheriff for the McKean County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Donald Morey. He was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Northwest Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, and the Seneca Law Enforcement Agency.

He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, the Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Department, where at one time he held all the offices except chief. He was a member of St. Bernard Alumni Association, Mount Jewett Sportsman's Club, the Bradford Gun Club, American Legion Post 108 and past adjunct, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Bradford Senior Center and he served on the Board of Directors.

Surviving is his wife Pat of 67 years, two daughters, Belinda Hackett of Riverdale, Ga., and Denise (Robert) O'Neil of Bradford; one son, David (Terri) Butler of Lewis Run; one brother, Paul Butler of Venice, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Douglas (Jen Kibbe) O'Neil, Bryan O'Neil, Gregory Hackett, Angela Ward, Keith (Lindsay) Butler, Michael Butler in the US Air Force, Jeremy Butler, and Trevor (Brittany) Mowery; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael J. Butler, and one brother Jay Butler.

Friends will be received on Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., where a prayer service will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Bernard Church with the Rev. Jim Gutting, senior associate of St. Bernard Church as celebrant. After the Mass, full Military Honors will be accorded by members of the United States Army and the Honor Guard from the American Legion Post 108. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
