Former mayor W H Garnett this morning received a message from Locust Dale, Va, announcing the death of John T Lightfoot, his brother-in-law, which occurred at that place last night. Mr. Lightfoot had only been sick a few days and his death was due to congestion of the lungs. He was complaining last Sunday when Mr. Garnett was there, but was not considered in any danger. He became much worse later in the week and died sometime last night.
The deceased was 52 years of age. He married Miss Lucy Garnett some years ago, who with two children and many other relatives survive him. The remains will be buried on Sunday at the family graveyard near Locust Dale.
