Bertha met Uriah D. T. Murray when he worked for her father, John Jones, at the Jones-Crenshaw grist mill in Whitesboro, Grayson County, Texas. Bertha and Uriah were married about 1860 and remained in Whitesboro. Later they moved to a town called Toadsuck, which was near Collinsville, Texas.

Bertha and Uriah had several children together: John Shadrach Murray (1862), George Thomas Murray (1867), William Henry David Murray (1869), and Robert (1871).

Sadly, Bertha passed away shortly after Robert was born. She was buried on the banks of Spring Creek near her home.
