Services for Claus Wessman Friday - Laurens Sun, Sept. 28,1944

Claus Albert Wessman was born in Sweden on August 12, 1860, son of Frederick and Sarah Wessman and departed from this life on the 20th day of September, 1944 at the age of 84 years, 3 weeks.

At the age of nineteen he came to the United States and located at Alta, Iowa where he entered into the harness-making business and was located there for several years.. On August 15, 1884, he married Miss Molly Kindwall of Alta. To this union were born five children: Theda, Ann, Stella, Ida and Conrad.

Mr. Wessman moved to marathon where he operated the same business until 1902 when he moved to Laurens where he spent most of the past 42 years in and around this vicinity. During the past three years he had been in failing health and had been cared for in the home of his daughter, Theda Swanson. His wife, Mrs. Molly Wessman along with his two daughters, Mrs. Stella McAtee and Mrs. Ida Casswell prceded him in death in the year 1918.

He later married Ms. Agnes (Sundin) Carlson who passed away in December of 1934. Mr. Wessman is survived by two daughters and a son, Mrs. Ann Beaman of Chicago, IL; Mrs. Theda Swanson and Conrad Wessman of Laurens; five grandchildren, Major Byron Swanson of Washington, DC; Donald Swanson of Miami, FL; Lt. Ronald McAtee of the US Army somewhere in England, Mrs. Roberta Johnson of Muskegon, Michigan, Miss Barbara Wessman of Laurens, and two great grandchildren.

A large group of friends attended the funeral service Friday afternoon at 3pm at the MCKee Funeral Home in Laurens. In charge of services was the Reverend CV Pence. A quartet composed of Harry Lund, Elmer Larson, Mrs. Elmer Schlensig and Mrs Donald Hansen accompanied by Mrs JE Clanton sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Burial was in the Laurens Cemetery by his wife, second wife, and daughter Ida. Pallbearers were Elmer Larson, Cal Brown, Jake Ziegler, Erik Blomgren, Fred Dubbert and Lyle George. Mrs Henry Dreier, Mrs Cecil Bartley, Sadie Wigen and Amy Turley were in charge of the flowers.
