Passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Loving mother of Doreen D. Cappelaere (Patrice) and Diane R. Byrd (Jack). Beloved Nana to Caroline M. Desroches (Peter), Allison J. Righter (Matt), H. Jackson Byrd III (Michelle), Alexandra R. Byrd, and the late Lt. Valerie C. Delaney. Proud great grandmother to Ella and Luke Desroches. Dearest twin sister to Alice W. Herndon, aunt to C. Chris Herndon (Karen), and Nonnie to Cassidy C. Herndon. Carolyn was born on October 21, 1936 to Charles Eugene and Alice Jean Weickhardt. A native Washingtonian, she graduated from Anacostia High School and the Washington School for Secretaries. She loved spending summers and holidays with family and friends at her home in Piney Point, MD. Carolyn was the keeper of all our family traditions. Memorial celebration will be held in June 2018 at St. George's Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Carolyn's memory to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
