U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He graduated from St. Anselm’s Preparatory School in 1926, Providence College in 1930 and Yale University Law School in 1933. He was a special agent for Federal Bureau of Investigation (1933-34), Connecticut director of National Youth Administration (1935-38) and assistant to five successive United States Attorneys Generals, (1938-45). In addition, he served in the Office of the United States Chief of Counsel for the Prosecution of Axis Criminality at Nuremberg, Germany, (1945-46) and engaged in private practice of law in Hartford, Connecticut, (1947-53). In 1953, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-third and Eighty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1957. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1958 and served until 1971. He died of a heart attack at age 64 and is the father of former U.S. Senators Christopher Dodd and Thomas J. Dodd, Jr.
