He was born on August 25, 1937 in the area of Black Lake, NY. He attended Hammond schools, where he lettered in track & field. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Carol Joy Elliott and with her, fathered 3 children. Following the marriage, the couple moved around New York State until they settled in the Syracuse area around 1967. In 1973, the then family of 5, moved to Baldwinsville where they would remain.
Mr. Elliott had led a very colorful life including working at Frontier Town in the Adirondacks as a bull-riding cowboy. He had a tremendous musical talent, but left behind his dreams of heading to Nashville to embrace the responsibilities of providing for his new family. He had been at various times a carpenter, a roofer, a worker in a book bindery and finally a welder at the Carrier Corp., where he eventually retired.
Mr. Elliott's passion for all things outdoors began in his youth, on Black Lake. There he learned the skills of fishing, trapping and hunting and used those skills to help feed his large family. The necessity of providing game, honed his shooting ability to an extremely high degree. Mr. Elliott was a fixture on the Central New York trapshooting scene for decades where he won many awards.
Rodger is predeceased by his wife, Carol J. Elliott; 4 brothers, Robert, Dean, Douglas and Rozell Jr. Elliott; 7 sisters, Rose Rifici, Shirley Hazelton, Marion Simpson, Arlene Exelby Matthews, Isla Ramsey, Elizabeth Hazelton and Wanda Elliott.
