According to Find A Grave Member #49794705, the City of Sherrill, New York (founded in 1916) is named in honor of him.

"Sherrill Sherman, a Clinton resident for 50 years, former president of Roberts Hardware Company in Utica and a prominent figure in the golf world, died June 1 following a long illness. Mr. Sherman, who resided on Chestnut street, was 79. Mr. Sherman was the oldest son of James Schoolcraft Sherman who served in the House of Representatives for 20 years and was vice president of the United States from 1909 to 1912. His mother, Carrie Babcock Sherman, was a direct descendent of Pocohontas. Mr. Sherman was born in Utica and attended Utica schools before entering Hamilton College where he was captain of the basketball team and a member of the track team. He also captained the 1904 Hamilton College golf team and was the first winner of the Utica city amateur golf title. He was a life member of the Fort Schuyler Club and was a past president of the New York State Hardware Jobbers Association. He formerly headed the Hardware Association of Chicago and was a member of the Republican Club of New York City. Mr. Sherman's wife, the former Kate Baker, died in 1960 ... Mr. Sherman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William J. Waldron of Utica, two sons, James S. II, of Clinton, and Sherrill, Jr., of New Hartford, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Miles T. Hutchinson and Mrs. Warner Clark, both of Utica. Funeral services were conducted Monday from the family residence on Chestnut street, with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica."
