Albert R. Buri, age 86, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on May 22, 2019. Born in Mount Pleasant Township, Green County, on June 18, 1932, Al was the son of Albert J. and May Pickett Fritz Buri. He attended Hillside View School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1950. While in high school, Al sung with an FFA quartet that won the National Championship. He was also a charter member of the Green County Barbershoppers. He entered military service in May 1954, and served as Chief Clerk of the G-1 Administration Division, Headquarters Fifth Army in Chicago, IL. He was honorably discharged in February 1956, was an active member of Monroe American Legion, and served with their Honor Guard performing Military Rites for veterans at local cemeteries. As a veteran of The Korean Conflict, he went on the Badger Honor Flight in 2014. An active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Al sang for over 50 years with the Sanctuary Choir, and served on the Christian Education and Property Committees. Al married the former Shirley Geigel on November 28, 1958, in the Immanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church in Monroe and they farmed in the Monroe area for several years. He then worked at General Motors for several years until forming his own general contracting business in 1969. After retiring, he volunteered at the Green County Welcome Center and the food pantry, and enjoyed gardening, making wine, playing cards and helping friends and family with home repairs and building projects. He particularly enjoyed family time making music, traveling and playing games. He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter, Beth (Paul) Rahn of Madison, son, Bryan (Sharon) of Browntown, daughter, Bonnie (Roger) Bork of Mount Carroll IL, daughter, Becky Kallas of Monroe, son Bruce (Dawn) of Menomonee Falls, 9 grandchildren, and one future great-granddaughter; sister, Aleatha Jordan of Juda. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings Clifford, Raymond and Lester Fritz, Elva Kugler, Violet Boll, Verona Orton, Martha Einbeck, and Alberta in infancy. The family appreciates the compassionate efforts of the Monroe Clinic Hospice during his brief illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Badger Honor Flight (www.badgerhonorflight.org) or St. John’s Church. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday evening, May 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home.
