Alton W. Morton, Sr.
On Thursday, December 11, 2014, God saw fit to take our loved one, Alton W. Morton, Sr. from our midst. He slipped into a blissful sleep in his home. His life began on April 1, 1932, the son of the late Susie and Grover Morton, in Williamsburg, Virginia. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Alton attended the local public schools and met his wife, the former Mary M. Jennings (now deceased). On July 5, 1952, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. Unto this union, they were blessed with six children. After holding several positions, he retired from Cheatham Annex after thirty-six years of service. Continuing to work for an additional twenty-one years, he drove a shuttle bus for Kampgrounds Of America.
Alton was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. We know that our loss is Heaven's gain, "Sleep on dear one and take your well-deserved rest."
His loving and precious memories will always remain with his daughters, Alzeonia Morton, of Williamsburg, Virginia and Pastor Vanessa Saunders (Stanley), of Newport News, Virginia; his sons, Elder Alton Morton, Jr. (Rose), of Texas, Larry D. Morton (Gina), of Richmond, Virginia, Kenneth R. Morton and Renard L. Morton (Terri), of Norfolk, Virginia; a step-daughter, Leontine Brown (Moses), of Tabb, Virginia; his grandson, Troy L. Morton (Victoria), of Yorktown, Virginia.; his seventeen other grandchildren; his sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Morton; nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. His very special friends, Mr. Charles Elliott, Mr. Darnell Palmer, Mr. Herman Braxton, Mr. Cleveland Morton and many other caring friends.
