Evelyn Splittstoesser, of Braham, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. She was 74 years old.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Braham Event Center.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service on Friday.
IntOn February 15, 1945 in Little Falls Minnesota, Evelyn I. Splittstoesser was born the 11th of 15 children, to Frank and Katherine Seelen. Evie passed away peacefully, Friday, March 15, 2019 at North Memorial Medical Center. She was 74 years old.
In the fall of 1963, Evie married Ronald Splittstoesser and began their life together. Evie and Ron started their small family in the Twin Cities, with the birth of their first daughter Teri, second daughter Beth, and third daughter Wendy. In 1974 the family moved to rural Braham MN where they cleared their land and built their home, raised their family, and shared for another 45 years.
Evie was never one to sit on the sidelines and watch life pass her by. She was not only in the game she was the life of the party. In her earlier days, Evie loved playing softball with the gals from Dalbo, was a leader of the Day Busy Bees 4H Club. Later she enjoyed white water rafting, hunting, fishing, trapping gophers, volunteered her time walking horses for special needs youth, dancing (especially polkas), and a trip to the casino every now and then.
She loved to travel with family to see family, including trips to religious site in the Midwest, the 7-sister Las Vegas trip, trips to California, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Florida, and anywhere the road would take her to be with the ones she loved.
Evie was a gifted artist, she could sew anything from just looking at a picture (including a wedding dress), a talented painter, she also made many wedding cakes for her nieces and nephews weddings and taught her 3 girls how to hold a 4-tier wedding cake on their laps without crushing them from Day to Little Falls (not an easy task).
She loved gardening, being a farmer, and all of their animals, especially her chickens. She would try anything for the adventure and taught her kids and grandkids to look for the best outcome in every situation, even if it meant buying a goat to keep the calves from getting sick, which turned out to be a tall tale our old neighbor Lee Ernst told her and we all laughed about for years.
Evie tackled jobs some women wouldn’t even consider. She was the first woman Librarian to drive a bookmobile in MN. She could operate snow plow trucks, backhoes, skid loaders, dump trucks, articulating front end loader, semi-trucks, and anything else her little frame could crawl into.
Evie was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary daily. She led rosary prayer at GracePointe in Cambridge every Fridays with her dear friend Hazel. She taught us to be generous of time and our blessings by the examples she lived and all she did for other including taking her friends to dr. appointments, helping them with home repairs, giving money to those who were living through tough times, and sometimes just listening on the phone to someone with a broken heart. She always had coffee on and there was always time to visit. Evie ended every phone call with God bless you.
Evelyn was preceded in death by both parents Frank and Katherine Seelen of Little Falls, 7 brothers and 5 sisters; father and mother-in-law Donald & Bess Splittstoesser.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Ronald; daughters, Teri (Jon) Maslow, Beth (Scott) Kalbow, Wendy (Brandon) Draxten; grandchildren, Amber Splittstoesser (Nathan) Olson, Robyn (Travis) Stassen, Charles Koch, Jessica Koch, Hailey Draxten, Tanner Kranz (fiancé’ Abi) and Emily Maslow; great grandchildren, Vincent, Olivia, Marina Olsen, Scarlett Stassen; brother Sam (Laura) Seelen; sister Lorraine Hiemenz; brother-in-laws, Ardie Kalfka, and Don Okerman; sister-in-law Carol Seelen; and a long list of nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.erment will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Braham.
