Carl F. Gehringer Sr., 99, passed away peacefully Friday morning, March 1, 2019, at his residence at Ohio Living Lake Vista Assisted Living.

He was born July 28, 1919, in Allentown, Pa., a son of August and Elsie Koenig Gehringer.

He was a 1937 graduate of Allentown High School and honorably served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was twice the recipient of the distinguished Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his bravery.

Carl lived in the Warren community most of his life and was of the Lutheran faith. He worked for 48 years at General Electric Trumbull Lamp Plant and retired in 1986. He was a member of the Carroll F. Clapp Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Yankee Run Golf Friday Night Couples League. He was an active Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troops 14 and 21. He enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Carl is survived by a daughter, Vivian (Terry) McDowell of Howland; grandson, Charles (Jennifer) Dann of Howland; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Mila Rose; and a sister, Vivian Kaba of Coopersberg, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gisela Schuster Gehringer, whom he married on Dec.14, 1945 and who died on April 8, 2016; a son, Carl F. Gehringer Jr., who died Nov.14, 2012; and three sisters, Betty Fraley, Eleanor Meyer and Henrietta Seyer.

. Burial will be in Howland Township Cemetery with military honors.
