MRS. CARRIE SCRANTON, SECRETARY OF CHURCH, DIES AFTER OPERATION

Mrs. Carrie Scranton, wife of C. S. Scranton and prominent in church and uplift work here for the last decade, died Saturday at her home, 510 North Twenty-sixth street, from the effects of an unsuccessful surgical operation.

Mrs. Scranton was a niece of Philander Knox, formerly secretary of state under the Taft administration, and also of A. C. Knox, head of the Mellon National bank of Pittsburgh, Pa. The latter will probably be here to attend the funeral, which will be held at the First Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

For ten years previous to her marriage, Mrs. Scranton taught school here. She was membership secretary of the First Methodist church, and at one time was treasurer of the local Young Women's Christian association.

A week ago yesterday she underwent an operation, but her condition was so weak that she failed to recover. She was 41 years of age. Her mother, Mrs. Carrie Graff, and her husband survive.
