After many weary weeks of suffering, Mrs. Margaret Green, beloved wife of Mr. George S. Green, passed quietly away at the family residence on North State street at eight o’clock last night. The fading of the sainted spirit from its mortal tenement had been expected for several days by the anxious watchers gathered at the bedside of this beloved woman. . . .
The deceased was formerly Miss Margaret Warton, daughter of Judge T. J. Wharton, for many years one of the foremost members of the Mississippi bar, and a former attorney general of the state. . . . .
She was a faithful and devoted wife, a fond and loving mother, imbued with a broad spirit of charity and philanthropy, always foremost in the noble work of her church in the alleviation of sorrow and suffering and always ready to lend a helping hand in sickness.
The funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church this afternoon at three o’clock in the presence of a large and sorrowing congregation. Scores of beautiful floral tributes were heaped about the casket, and the service, conducted by the pastor, Dr. J. B. Hutton, was deeply solemn and impressive.
A heart-broken husband, seven sorrowing children and many relatives are left to mourn the passing away of this sainted woman, and to them the heartfelt sympathies of the entire community goes out in this midnight of sorrow and bereavement.
