Lisa M. Becker of Eagle River, WI went to her eternal resting place, on Friday, March 30, 2018, with her family and dear friends at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 28, 1951 in Athelstane, Wis. to Aron and Ester Kaatz.

Lisa married Curtis Becker on October 22, 1982.

Lisa earned a masters degree in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was employed at Eagle River Memorial/Ascension Hospital for over 22 years and previously worked at Howard Young, Woodruff, and Northwood’s Medical Center in Phelps. She was instrumental in developing and running the palliative care program at Eagle River and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, WI. She worked with the hospital to provide advanced directive training to the community. She did all of the hospital discharge planning and was a tireless patient advocate. She was an integral part of the community CARE program. She was instrumental in organizing ABIDERS, a program that linked volunteers with those who might otherwise die alone.

Her generosity extended to her home parish of St. Peter the Fisherman where she served as a Eucharistic minister, engaged in Parish Outreach, visited the home bound and cared for the flowers at church. Lisa dedicated most of her adult life to serving and caring for others, always with joy in her heart.

Lisa loved her life in the Wisconsin Northwoods where she felt privileged to enjoy the change of seasons, starlit nights and memorable sunsets. Her passion for gardening was only surpassed by her love for her husband, Curt. Her cherished pets, Jasmine the dog, and Ted her “prayer cat” brought untold comfort throughout her sometimes challenging journey.

To those who knew her, it was obvious that Lisa valued the time she was given to integrate her life and waning days – a peace-filled time enabling her to orchestrate how that time would be spent.

Those Lisa leaves behind to cherish her kind heart and loving ways are her husband, Curt;
and a sister, Amber Ellstrom of Eagle River, WI; her very special friend, Cate Wilson, and other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Lisa was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kate Louise.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, April 4th, at First Congregational United Church of Christ – Eagle River, 105 N 1st Street. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
