He was born on Dec. 24, 1932, in Hoopeston, a son of Otto and Eva (Boston) Branson. He married Helen Hurt on June 11, 1969, in Champaign. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2007.
He is survived by a sister, Mildred Law of Urbana; first wife, Laquita; a son Gregory Branson and grandson David Ryba, both of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; stepsons, David Ward of Urbana and Gary Ward of Mahomet; and stepdaughter, Susan Harmon of Rantoul.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by son Eugene, daughters Anita and Diana and a grandson Mathew. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Branson served in the U.S. Army.
He drove a delivery truck for McMahon Distributors of Champaign for thirty-plus years.
His hobbies included auto racing, fishing, gardening and carpentry.
There will be a visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
