11th Arkansas Governor, US Senator, Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Served as Governor of Arkansas from 1874 to 1877. Elected as a Senator from Arkansas to the United States Senate, serving from 1877 until he resigned in 1885 to accept the appointment of United States Attorney General in the cabinet of President Grover Cleveland. He served in that capacity from 1885 until 1889.
