Banker. Ames, a Civil War Veteran, was very involved in enforcing Reconstruction policies after the war. It is believed Ames' actions during the Reconstruction era & that his son, Adelbert Ames, a Union general & a Medal of Honor recipient, had angered the James & Younger gang. Their anger evolved into the doomed plan to rob Ames' bank in Northfield. Jesse & Frank barely escaped from the deadly shootout with the citizens of Northfield. And it ended the outlaw careers of the Youngers.
