Sarah Speers was the first wife of Nicholas Crist Sr. They were married in Virginia at Fredericksburg VA south of her parents who had settled on the South Shenandoah River at the north end of Massanutten mountain between Abraham Kellar and William Overall at the low water crossing. On the map a Spears Creek enters the river on the north side. Nicholas Sr married in 1763 Sarah Speers his first wife who had at least 5 children -
Gen Henry Thomas in 1764,
Sarah Catherine in 1767,
Nicholas Thomas Jr in 1770,
Rebecca in 1773, and
Jacob Crist in 1775.
Nicholas Sr and Sarah Speers were the first settlers on the west side of the Monongahela River at the settlement that they called Strasburg in 1769. It was warented in 1784 and later sold when they moved to KY. That settlement later became the town of Columbia. The town was renamed Donora PA on that bend in the river.
Their son Henry was later with his uncle Solomon Spears in search of a Salt Spring on the Salt river south of Louisville KY in Bullitt County when Solomon was killed by an Indian attack on their riverboat party in 1787.
