On the morning of August 19, 2016 at approximately 12:20 am, Peter Manuel Mello passed away. He passed away from a heart condition comfortably in his home. At the time of his passing he was with his wife Margaret Mello and youngest son Peter James Mello. Peter was 92 years old.
Peter Manuel Mello was born on August 3, 1924 in Newport, Rhode Island. Peter was a WWII veteran as well as a Forest Ranger in the Colorado Rockies. He traveled throughout the United States and settled in San Diego, CA. Here is where he was a Dairy Farmer for many years and then moved on to work for Kmart where he retired. After retirement he opened his own business, Mello Services. This was a parking lot sweeping business which included painting and landscaping. Peter was married to his wife Margaret Mello for 47 years and had 5 children with her.
He is survived by his sister Mary Heck, and brother Johnny Mello. His children Hector Ortiz, Loretta Mello-Rendon, Jesse Mello, Ines Mello-Simpson, Peter James Mello, Julia Wood, and Rebecca Mello. He had 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Nephew James Souza and nieces Delores Estes, Phyllis Johnson, and many more nieces, nephews and great nieces & great nephews who loved him as well.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, John C. Mello & Mary Mello, his brothers, Edward Mello, Edmund Mello, Joe Mello and sisters, Leah Mello, Irene Mello, Diane Mello and his son Peter John Mello.
The family will receive friends and family at the El Cajon Mortuary on August 31, 2016 from 5pm - 12am. The following day, Thursday September 1, 2016 services will be held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, San Diego, CA at 11:30am. The burial will follow at the Miramar National Cemetery at 2pm.
