Enlisted, January 15, 1915, in Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He mustered in for Mexican border service with Troop B, June 30, 1916, New York City. Squadron A was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas as part of the 6th NY Division ( later to be the 27th Division ). On October 7, 1916 he became ill and place in the hospital, at Camp McAllen, till October 20, 1916. He was transported , October 21, 1916, to the Base Hospital , at Brownville, Texas, till November 22, 1916. He was furloughed , November 24, 1916, to New York City, and rejoined Squadron A, on their return form border service, December 24, 1916.He was mustered out of border service with Squadron A, December 28, 1916.

World War 1, Called into service with Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry and mustered in July 22, 1917. Squadron A. Squadron A was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, and reorganized into the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

He was transferred ,January 10, 1918, to the 1st New Hampshire , then to Company G, 1st Army Headquarters Regiment. He shipped out for Europe, May 21, 1918, and discharged as a sergeant, in Paris, France, April 19, 1919 ( most likely visited his family in Switzerland ).

Post World War, enlisted. September 27, 1920, in the 51st Machine Gun Squadron ( Squadron A ), NYNG, New York City. He was discharged October 7, 1921.
