Mr. David Albert Preston, 77, of the Johnstonville Community,Lamar County, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, at Coliseum Medical Center, after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Preston was born October 31, 1939, in Marietta, son of the late John Gray and Elizabeth Walker Preston.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Angela Harrison Preston; daughters, Katherine Angela Preston (Robert Lanier Anderson IV) of Mountain View, CA, and Sara Louise Baggett Preston (Tracey Baggett Preston) of Cumming, Georgia; granddaughter, Katherine Frances; brother, James Miller Preston of Macon, Georgia and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Ray Preston.

Mr Preston attended Clisby Elementary, Lanier High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology, attaining a Masters in Microbiology in 1966. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Preston served in the military until 1968 as an instructor in the Chemical Corp at Ft. McClellen in Anniston, Alabama.
He spent his professional career with Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a respected scientific author, with many antibiotic development-related scientific publications to his credit. In his 32-year tenure with Lilly, 29 were in discovery and clinical development of antibacterial antibiotics with the Infectious Diseases Research Division and 3 years in Global Marketing.
After retiring to the Barnesville area, Mr. Preston became an active member of Lamar Arts, the Johnstonville Community and the Barnesville Woodturners. For over sixty years he played guitar and sang Bluegrass and gospel music alongside beloved childhood friends, as ‘The Brothers”.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Breedlove Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00.
