Jemmy Keiller graduated from Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg. He also studied at the Polytechnic in Zurich. In 1906, he became chief engineer at Gothenburg's Mechanical Workshop and participated in the planning of the company's new shipyard, the future Götaverken. He was also Italian consul from 1910 and chamberlain at the Swedish Royal Court from 1922.
Keiller was a member of various boards such as Keiller's Park, handicraft association's school and was chairman of Forsvik AB, Dubberöds AB and from 1915 of the Gothenburg Hunters' Society.
Keiller was married to Alice Lyon (later "Statsfru" at the Royal Court), daughter of Consul John Lyon and Carolina Zachau. Their daughter, Hilda Florence Margaret "Flory" Gate, was married to glass artist Karl/Carl Oscar Simon Gate at Orrefors (his second marriage).
